4 hours of wedding photography provides the perfect amount of time for half day wedding coverage, and for a lot of couples, it’s a real sweet spot. It gives us enough time to capture the main portions of your day, without you having to commit to full day coverage.
What 4 hours of coverage can include
With 4 hours, we can usually cover a really lovely chunk of your day, giving enough time for things to unfold naturally without feeling like everything needs to be squeezed in and rushed.
This often includes:
- Guests arriving and your ceremony
- Confetti and drinks reception
- Group photos and couple portraits
- Usually speeches, depending on timings (All before dinner, you can read about when you should have your speeches here)
Because there’s more breathing room, there’s also more opportunity for natural moments in between these parts, which helps your gallery feel more relaxed and candid overall.
We’re not jumping from one thing straight to the next, which means there’s space for genuine interactions, those in-between moments, and a bit more variety across your gallery.
When timed well, 4 hours of coverage can feel really full but balanced, giving you a strong sense of your day without you needing me to be there from start to finish.
Who 4 hours works well for
This option is ideal for couples who:
- Love my style of natural, relaxed photography but want to keep things more budget conscious
- Aren’t too concerned about getting ready photos
- Are happy for friends and family to capture some of the evening atmosphere
- Or simply want the core of the day documented professionally, but without full coverage
It’s a really good balance if you still want your day to be professionally photographed, without committing to a full day of coverage.
I often find 4 hours works really well for couples who are quite intentional about their plans and know exactly which parts of the day matter most to them. I’m always happy to chat through your timeline to ensure your expectations match what 4 hours coverage can give you.
It also allows you to minimise your photography budget, while still having a beautiful and cohesive professional wedding gallery to look back on.

What you might miss
4 hours won’t typically include:
- Morning preparations
- Later evening moments like golden hour portraits
- Your first dance and dancefloor
For some couples, these parts of the day aren’t a priority, but it’s worth thinking about this in advance so you can decide what matters most to you both and what you’re happy to leave out.
Golden hour in particular is something couples often don’t think about until afterwards, so it’s always worth considering whether this is something you’d love to have included.
Typically the cake is cut before your first dance, however with half day coverage I recommend doing your cake cut during your cocktail hour so you can still include this part of the day you’d otherwise have to miss (It also means you can have your cake served to your guests alongside teas & coffees after the wedding breakfast)
That said, if these parts of the day don’t feel important to you, 4 hours can still give you a complete and meaningful final wedding gallery without them.
Creating a ‘full day’ feel
With the right timeline, 4 hours can still feel like a really complete story.
By focusing on the most important parts of your day and letting go of anything that doesn’t matter as much to you, you can still end up with a gallery that feels full, natural and true to your wedding day.
For many couples, 4 hours ends up being the perfect balance between having professional coverage and flexibility within your budget.
It gives us enough time to capture the heart of your day, while still keeping things simple and intentional throughout.
If you’re drawn to my relaxed, natural style of photography but don’t feel the need for full day coverage, this can be a really lovely option that still provides you with a beautiful gallery.
